August 2021 Bulletin

20/10/2021

Welcome to August’s E-bulletin for the Thames Valley Children and Young People with Diabetes Network. Following the great news that NHSE are continuing to fund the Digibete App, DigiBete will be running some regional refresher sessions.  The aim is to give some additional support by trying to ensure teams are able to make the most of the App features and benefit from being able to send out comms and targeted comms via the App, and also give a chance for teams to be able to share ideas on how they are using the App and portal. The dates for your diary are 16th September @ 10am, and 3rd November @ 3pm.

Our next network meeting will be in November, so if in the meantime you or your team require any help, please drop Fiona or I an email.

Many thanks,

Jennifer.

4.      Staff Information and Opportunities

Ateria SafeControl

New 4mm safety pen needle, Ateria SafeControl. There have been some concerns about the current choice of safety pen needles and issues raised around early activation of devices and uncertainty as to whether full doses of insulin have been given. This was of particular concern in schools where teachers are giving the injections. Some paediatric teams feel that Ateria SafeControl would be beneficial for use in schools to help rectify any issues with injection technique and dose delivery.

Please see the attached brochure for further information, we will also be inviting one of the reps to speak at our next meeting. In the meantime, if you have any questions or you would like samples of the needles, please contact David our local rep: david.kershaw@owenmumford.com

National tariff and costing updates

The latest information on BPT can be found here. If you would like to receive notifications when NHS England publish new information on the National Tariff Payment System, you can sign up to the costing newsletter by contacting costing@improvement.nhs.uk.

Local Authorities Funding for tech

The Department for Education (DfE) provided more than 1.3 million laptops and tablets to help disadvantaged pupils and young people with remote and face-to-face education during the COVID-19 pandemic. In doing so, those that are disadvantaged and have been diagnosed with Diabetes, should already be able to access funding to receive a laptop to support their education. See link below for more information:

These would mainly be aimed at people living with diabetes but also open to interested  healthcare professionals – in October or November.  Sessions are usually 1½ hours long to allow for an hour presentation/talk and question time.
