National Type 1 Diabetes and Difficulties/Disorders of Eating Network Working Group - Aim 1
Intensification of diabetes treatment with technology and carbohydrate counting has brought improvements in outcomes for people living with diabetes, but alongside this, a rise in distress associated with food, eating, body image and insulin dosing. Work to address this has been commissioned by NHS England for those over 18y, and this has led to some innovative services, but nothing yet exists for children and young people under 18y, where problems may begin. This network is being launched as a recognition that difficulties/disorders of eating in young people with diabetes are common, and seeks to support children, young people and their families, as well as their diabetes clinicians, by creating 4 workstreams.
